3D Printing – Airplane Models – 3D printing of airplane models is a big challenge for many designers in the world, due to its complexity and detail, as well as constructing a series of CAD designs so that every parts fit together perfectly.
Sean Charlesworth and Norman Chan of Youtube channel “Tested” invited Jackie Wan, who successfully designed a complete airplane model kit, to present on his work.

In general, the airplane 3D Printed kit includes 16 total parts of various shapes and sizes, namely airplane body (2 parts), wings (2 parts), 4 turbine engines, 2 vertical stabilizers, 1 horizontal stabilizer, engine blades (4 parts), and a joining piece between 2 parts of the body.

While using Ultimaker FDM 3D Printer, Jackie designed the parts so as to avoid using extra support for the parts (extra built parts to support areas where there aren’t any plastic layer below to hold them in place), thus minimize the quantity of material needed.
