3D Printing – Knightly Sword – Used in the High Middle Ages (XI – XIII century), is the type of sword originated from the Vikings’ Carolingian swords. When long-swords (large-bladed swords with two-handed handle) emerged, the Knightly swords have been modified and became Arming swords.

The Knightly swords are straight-bladed, with 2 sharp edges and short handle for one-handed combat. Knightly swords have a typical length of approximately 90cm (including handle), with their blades from 70-80cm. The center of the blade is forged with cleft along the blade in the middle. Depending on the according era, the sword’s handle is designed differently, but usually consist of a round décor at the end (a pommel).

They were mostly inspired by religious beliefs, the most common of which is the phrase “in nomine Domini” (Latin: in the name of the Lord). Sometimes the inscriptions might be meaningless as well, for instance “ERTISSDXCNERTISSDX” or “+NDXOXCHWDRGHDXORVI+”.
