3D Printing Logo – It’s one thing to print company logo on a T-shirt, but 3D printing our company’s logo as keychains, or even a paperweight on the office table is another story. With 3D Printing technologies, it is entirely possible. An example of 3D printing a company’s logo is one of Yamaha, as can been seen in Image 1.
The first step of 3D Printing process starts from 2D images. The higher the resolutions of images files in JPEG, PNG,… format, the more detailed they are and the easily to show details on 3D CAD models. These images will then be used to construct vector coordinates (SVG format – Scalable Vector Graphics).
Afterwards, with the use of professional 3D softwares (such as Geomagic Design X), we can convert SVG file into 3D CAD model.
Next, depending on usage, the 3D CAD model can be customised by designers according to customers’ wishes. After the modification process of CAD model is complete, it can be exported to STL file format for 3D printing.
Finally, STL file needs to be converted into printing codes layer by layer, so that the 3D printer can understand how to operate the printing process. These files are usually in GCODE format. Some of the GCODE converter are Repetier or Simplify3D. From here, GCODE file can be sent to the 3D Printing either via SD memory cards, USB or TCP/IP connection for the printing process to proceed.
