3D Scanning & Quality Control Cars – As a wonderful tool for quality control, 3D Scanning is applied by Koenigsegg in collaboration with Creaform to control the quality of their produced cars.
With high expertise and impressive experience, Koenigsegg is entirely confident that Creaform can meet their requirements in quality control of their super cars. With collaboration with Swedish retailer Maskin & Laser Teknik AB, the cars manufacturer found a way to 3D scan and inspect quality that matches perfectly with the assembly line.
3D Scanning and Quality Control Cars
With more than 300 carbon fiber parts, the foremost requirement of the 3D scanner for this purpose is the ability to scan dark surfaces and/or extremely reflective. Light will be absorbed by dark surfaces (which results in inability to scan ), or in the case of excessive reflection of the surface, there will be “noise” data points on the scanned file, they are the big challenges for the 3D scanning process.
Creaform created an algorithm to surpass this challenge. Moreover, they optimized the 3D scanning productivity with MetraSCAN 3D scanner that has 7 laser lines, and the scanning process sped up by 12 times.
3D Scanning & Quality Control Cars
With Koenigsegg, they scan the entire car with Photogrammetry, using MaxSHOT 3D coordinate measurement system. This scanning process helps maximum precision in the alignment process between necessary steps of quality control.
By combining optical 3D scanning with MetraSCAN 3D and HandySCAN 3D, with a CMM system HandyPROBE CMM, Koenigsegg engineers can quickly receive feedback on the quality of its cars on the assembly line.
