Reverse Engineering recover turbine blades – Reverse Engineering is an excellent tool in every stage of a Product Life Cycle, from prototype designing stage, to recovering broken, damaged or warped mechanical parts. In definition, Reverse Engineering is the process of redesigning an object or physical model via their digital surfaces by coordinate measurement devices, and rebuild the design models from digital data. Compared to traditional methods, Reverse Engineering has the advantage of time for processing, designining and improving products, thus help save time and costs for customers and shorten the time required to bring a product to the market.

One of the examples of Reverse Engineering applications is the collaboration project between Smart Design Labs Co Ltd. and a customer, using 3D Scanning, Reverse Engineering and Quality Control technologies to recover and manufacture turbine blades with low costs and high precision and reliability.

Due to the turbine blades having been imported from overseas for a long time, the product no longer has existing specifications nor 2D & 3D designs. When damages or warpings occur, the fixing process would be very difficult, or very costly to import new parts from overseas. Therefore, 3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering technologies are currently the optimal solution.

The turbine blade is 3D scanned, then the 3D data is exported to Reverse Engineering software Geomagic Design X.

We used Geomagic Design X tools to create the turbine blade. The final process is Quality Inspection after the designing product and the scanned sample…

With Reverse Engineering technology, we can achieve technical specifications and 3D designs of the turbine blade from the real part, thus help speeding up the recovering and manufacturing process of turbine blade with low cost and high precision.

How Engineers Ultilized The CAD model

    16/07/2021

To continue our last post about 3D Scan Nandi – a sacred bull sculpture, this post will take a look at how second scanning session phase take place in (CAD Model) and final fabrication. The Researchers used a Handyscan 3D portable, self-positioning laser scanner to scan the final wax sculpture. The team exported the STL […]

    Reverse Engineering Project By SDL

    13/07/2021

Several reverse engineering projects have been performed to meet the demands and desires of customers by Smart Design Labs (SDL). Reverse engineering is defined as the process of redesigning a given sample, which creates a physical model by digitizing the sample surface using a piece of coordinate measuring equipment. Reverse engineering offers faster processing, design, […]

Archaeological Field: Steps To Steps in Reverse Engineering

    05/07/2021

As we all know, the archaeological field plays a critical role in the study of early culture, from the Old Stone Age until the development of writing, accounting for 99 percent of human history, but there is no text to study. Reverse engineering is the technique of completely rebuilding a specimen using data from 3D […]

The Process Of Making “Digital Twins”

    02/07/2021

Field observations are the first step in the digital documentation process. The purpose of the observation is to identify the assembly elements, their specificity in the current state of things and thus designate groupings of components and data gathering methods, to continue our latest topic about the relation between building information modeling and Reverse Engineering […]
