3D Printing – Advertising & Marketing – In the digital age, 3D Printing technology is no longer a mere production method, but transcended as an effective means of advertising and marketing for business brands in the world.
Coca Cola:
The most notable marketing campaign using 3D printing technologies would be “Mini me” campaign, launched by Coca Cola Israel in 2013. In collaboration with Gefem Tel-Aviv, Coca Cola invited customers to use a mobile phone application they made, to self-design a digital version of themselves. A selected few winners of the competition will be invited to Coca Cola factory in Tel Aviv, where they will be 3D scanned 360 degrees and receive their own 3D miniature statue of themselves (Diaz, 2013) [1]

DVV:
Belgium insurance company DVV has a different approach with their 3D printing marketing campaign.
Aiming at a particular group of customers who often absent-mindedly lose or forget their keys, DVV launches a campaign called “Key Save” to ensure that customers never truly forget their keys. They allow customers to 3D scan their keys, the 3D scanned data saved to a secured database. When customers lose their keys, they can bring the 3D scanned data to any 3D printer to create a new one. Not only is it beneficial for the customers, but it also significantly save the expenses insurance companies have to pay just to replace their customers’ key lock (Diaz, 2013) [1]

Volkswagen:
Volkswagen even goes further when they let the customers themselves become the designers for Volkswagen’s Polo cars. Customers are invited to participate in a car designing competition for Volswagen Polo, called “The Polo Principle”. 40 best designs will be chosen to be 3D printed and displayed at Copenhagen fair in March. After that, they will be given as gifts to the designers (Spark, 2017) [2]
