3D Printing technology – FDM – FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) 3D Printing technology uses printing material in flexible filament form, which is partially melted and extruded via a moving deposition head onto a static worktable.
Operation principle:
- Loading of material
- Liquefaction of material
- Application of press to move liquefied material through the nozzle
- Extrusion of liquefied material
- Plotting according to a predefined path and in a control manner
- Bonding of the material to itself or secondary material to form a coherent structure
- Inclusion of support structures to enable complex geometrical features
- Polishing and painting of finished product
Materials:
- ABS or PLA plastic
- Predominantly PC (Poly-Carbonate)
- PC-ISO
- PPSF (PolyPhenySulphone)
Application:
- Concept models:
- Fit, form, functional testing
- Functional Prototypes:
- Tough models
- Can be used for functional tests
- Precise, detailed parts:
- High level of precision and accuracy
- Can be used in areas where high precision is required
- High-heat application:
- FDM technology can withstand high heat tolerance
- Great for parts that are subjected to high heat
- Industrial uses:
- Aerospace parts manufacturing
- Automobile prototyping
- Commercial purpose
- Industrial and medical purpose
- Architecture model making
- UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) component manufacturing
- Low volume production of end-use parts without tooling and lead time
